A Group of Romantic Mediterranean Islands

This romantic and sought after honeymoon destination is part of the Cyclades Islands, and it takes pride in picturesque villages such as Fira, Oia, Imerovigli or Firostefani  that you might want to know a little bit more of, before searching for a romantic hotel room or villa to rent.

Fira (also known as Thira) is the capital and commercial centre of Santorini, featuring one of the most beautiful views on the caldera (a seven mile crater embraced by the two arms of the bend) and on the famous volcano that centuries ago destroyed great part of the island. This beautiful village boasts many restaurants, bars, shops, hotels and rental villas, and also the famous cable car station which takes tourists to and from the island’s port, Skala. The restaurants in Fira serve delicious food, and the nightlife is really bubbly. You should definitely walk in the ‘gold street’ (Ipapantis street) in case you want to make a precious gift, while for a romantic walk you should take the path from Fira to Oia along the beautiful caldera coastline, which looks much more impressive at night time.

Oia is another magical little village you might consider choosing for your honeymoon. Located on the northern tip of the island, Oia clings to the crest of a cliff, at the edge of the breathtaking caldera. It has a magnificent view on the island of Thirassia, and is located approximately 12 kilometers away from Fira. It has been considered by many to be the place with the most spectacular views across the Mediterranean Sea, so you might not want to miss this perfect setting for your romantic honeymoon.

Oia has a unique architecture, born from the quest of finding where and how to build something that still clings to the rock. Its most distinctive feature is the main road that runs along the caldera, full of shops and various tourist services that make it very colorful and lively. Oia offers restaurants and bars that suit all tastes, great little shops, regular public transport and nearby attractions, being a perfect area to choose as a base for your stay on the island. Here you will find a great variety of accommodation (an eclectic mix of 19th century villas and beautiful Cycladic-style houses), as well as easy access to several beaches where you will surely spend time relaxing, swimming, getting some healthy tan and having a fabulous time. Sipping a drink in one of the cafes along the caldera, and enjoying the charm of the landscape and the stunning sunset will become an unforgettable experience.

At about 2 kilometers south of Fira stands Imerovigli, which offers the highest views of the caldera, and has one of the main attractions of Santorini, the fortress of Skaros – the island’s former capital during the Middle Ages. And, as if it were not enough, the accommodation in this area offers some of the most impressive views of the volcano.

Moving north from Fira, you will find Firostefani along the beautiful west coast overlooking the caldera. The area is within easy walking distance from the capital, its farthest point being not more than a mile away. The place is cosy and calm, offering excellent accommodation and great volcano views.

If you still cannot make up your mind and each place sounds fantastic in its own way, maybe you would be interested in some of the best romantic hotels and villas on the island that will probably help you make a decision.
